The Red Ruby (aka Devon, North Devon, Beef Devon, Red Devon) is a lesser used name for the Devon breed and is called such because of its color. The first herdbook for the Devon breed in England was started in 1850 by Colonel Davey - whose family, along with the Quartley family, is one of the founders and original improvers of the modern Devon.
