The Prim'Holstein (aka French Friesian and French Holstein-Friesian in English) originated with Dutch Black Pied cattle that were imported into France in the 18th century.
Until 1952, the breed was called the Hollandaise pie-noire. Then it was called the Française Frisonne Pie-Noire (FFPN) from 1952-1990.
France started using Holsteins to grade with their Friesian cattle during the 1970's and 1980's. In 1992 the name was officially changed to the Prim'Holstein.
