Our second guest contributor is Gilles Prince from France. Gilles contacted me because he wanted help in identifying a cow in a picture he had taken in his area of Bordeaux. Our exchange was very pleasant and so I made that day's My Daily Cow® a Bazadais.

Gilles then sent me this wonderful picture (see below) that he had taken of a group of Bazadaise (aka Bazadais in English). These cows were in the wetlands near the village of Arveyres, which is near Libourne, department of Gironde (33) about 30 kms from Bordeaux. The Gironde Estuary is where the mouths of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers merge.

Gilles also has two nature websites of his own:

http://prince.gilles.free.fr about birds and flowers of France

http://perso.modulonet.fr/giprince about the region of France called "Les Landes de Gascogne" (South-West)

2009-06-22: Gilles has sent another beautiful picture he took of a group of Gasconnne (aka Gascon in English) in 2008, on July the 4th (see below).
Note the brown color of the calf - which Gilles says seems to be typical.

Gilles remembers the weather being very sad in this mountain valley on that day. "Impossible to have a walk." Yet, on the edge of the road, there in the landscape were these Gasconne having a rest.
"The grey and the green made this almost a Japanese painting."
I very much agree. This photo gives the viewer a peaceful sense of 'place'. The weather and surroundings remind me of the Siskiyou Mountains in Oregon.

2009-07-18: Below is another lovely photo of a family of Parthenaise (aka Parthenais in English) taken in the north part of the department of Gironde called Médoc (a part of Médoc is very famous for its wine).

2010-09-25: Below is a rare photo sent on August 5th of a Bordelaise heifer (aka Bordelais in English) taken in the suburbs of Bordeaux, near Bruges. According to Gilles, a small herd of Bordelaise is the property of a "Conservatoire" and the city of Bordeaux gives them a place to live and feed.
