Copy Clips To Separate Track

In the Timeline:

Hold down Option.
Click
on the clip you want to copy (but don't release the mouse).
Now release the Option key.
As you move your mouse you will find that you have a copy of the clip you clicked on.

Drag it to wherever you want and only then release your mouse.

So it's: Option - Click - release Option - Place - release Mouse
